New version includes a
built-in connection to MS-SQL and allows remote web access .
JAYBEE Systems, the developer
of SmartButler® Guest Service Centre, is delighted to announce the
release of a new version of SmartButler® - version 5.20x. The new
version contains a number of new features and also significant
changes to the database capability of SmartButler®.
SmartButler® now comes with an embedded ADO component allowing
existing customers to migrate from a local propriety database to
MS-SQL Express, which has a free license. The new platform
reduces the number of layers involved in posting and retrieving
shared data, hence allowing faster data transmission,
compatibility with newer versions of Windows and more stable
data hosting. The SQL platform also no longer needs to use a
remote shared drive, hence allowing more remote workstations to
use the system over a fast TCP/IP platform. The combination of
SQL and a server operating system enables the concurrent running
of clients accessing SmartButler® in the "classic" way, as well
as remote users accessing via a standard web browser. Although
the remote web access is still restricted in terms of its
feature set, it does allow users to view and update the status
of their own call tickets.
Additional new features and improvements include:
New reporting capabilities.
An option to associate categories to service definitions. This
adds an additional layer to the search and reporting
capabilities by allowing records to be sorted both by service as
well as by category.
Automatic new e-mail messaging capability in addition to the
existing SMS messaging feature.
A new logic which allows the calculation of ticket close times
on the basis of business working hours and days instead of
actual time elapsed. The business working hours and days are
defined by each customer according to his practices.
The ability for guests to checkout remotely via SMS.
Mr. Joseph Ron, JAYBEE's Managing Director, explains that the
new features in SmartButler 5.20 are designed to allow customer
hotels to be ready for the new Web era in an easier and
hassle-free manner. "By allowing our users to migrate seamlessly
to an MS-SQL environment, we have opened many new possibilities
and features which run concurrently with our existing system.
JAYBEE is proud to have been able to deliver the new platform
according to our original plans, and also to continue our
significant R&D efforts despite the economic downturn. We are

The upgrade process can be undertaken with remote support from
JAYBEE’s support team. Prior to installing the new version, all
2009 records must be moved to history. Beginning January 1st,
users can call the JAYBEE office to schedule an upgrade.
Beginning May 1st
2010, JAYBEE will only provide support for version 5.20x. For more
